April Ross

April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball players who have earned medals more than once at an Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman who is a first time Olympian. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic Gold. At 39, this could be her final chance to win the gold medal at an Olympics. However, she is confident of achieving top honours. If we play our highest or play well I feel like we can get that gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. "I'm planning to test to have a bit of luck." Ross was born on the 22nd of October, 1982. She was raised in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Along with participating in a variety of sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. When she was a student in the prep school she played indoor volleyball along with basketball and track. Though she excelled at indoor volleyball but it was apparent that her abilities were higher than the average. The college bio says that she played outside of the hitter, middle blocker, as well as a setter throughout her volleyball time during high school. In recognition of her work, she was honored as the 1999 Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. Her volleyball skills also earned her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Ross Klineman and Ross may have begun working together in 2017, but Ross was already an established player at the beach before they joined forces. In fact, she's been able to win multiple events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to 2013. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. They won a Silver Medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings the legendary team that took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat each other to take home the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she had retired. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross played for the Trojans at USC during her college years after she graduated in high school. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was amazing. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. She was also a key player for helping the Trojans make it to the Final Four. During her sophomore year she suffered a tremendous personal setback but managed to be a second All-American. The last two years with the Trojans' program the team was led to victory by winning the national title in consecutive years. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time legend winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter's climb to fame as a beach volleyball player. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast when she was in her sophomore year at USC. Ross is still awed by her mother who died. Margie is a constant source of inspiration to her on and off the beach.
